New types of work, incubators, gig economy

The boundary between employment and freelancing has become rather blurry. Last week, former Olympic cyclist Jess Varnish found herself on the same bike as Deliveroo riders, who lost a UK case last year that they were workers, entitled to collective bargaining rights. Ms Varnish failed to convince a tribunal she was an employee or worker at British Cycling or UK Sport before she was left out of the GB team in 2016.
